Punked

On Fridays we have 2 shifts at the temple.  One that starts at 5:00 AM and the other at 2:00 PM.  We have 2 vans full of temple workers/missionaries.  On Thursday night the van with the early shift leaves at 6:00 PM.  The late shift stays until about 8:00.  We are on the late shift this week.  Here is the conversation in the van on the way home.  (All said with great love and humor...)  (But Elder O will be tutored later.)

Elder G:  Pardon my language, but I think I got punked tonight.  Elder O used all our late shift workers on sessions before he left, so I had no one to put on the last session.

Sister J:  He is a punk!

Sister C:  I think Elder B. is a punk because he was supposed to be teaching Elder O and he let that happen.

Elder G:  Yeah!  He's a punk too!

Brother Gobeni is from East Cape.  English is probably his 3rd language.  So I asked him:  Brother Gobeni, do you know what a punk is?

Brother Gobeni: I'm thinking a very bad man.

Others:  Well...not bad really.  More naughty.  Irritating.  Playing tricks.

So, we drive home.
We all share the same elevator.  We live on different floors.  In the elevator someone has hit all the buttons, so those on the 5th floor (Capron's) have to stop on every level.  We found out this "someone" was Brother Gobeni.  We were playfully irritated at him and gave him a hard time.  As he left the elevator he said: "I'm a punk."

Lesson well received!
